I, Karthika Menon Thomas, hold a Master of Counselling postgraduate degree from the University of Canberra, Australia. I have previously worked as a Family Counsellor (Post-Separation Family Services) and as a Student Counsellor (IMPACT services) at Marymead, Canberra, providing individual and group counselling support services under the umbrella of a child-inclusive and trauma-informed approach. I presently hold a Level 2 membership with the Australian Counselling Association. I also have a background working as a Registered behaviour Therapist providing early intervention ABA therapy to children, clinically diagnosed with Autism, developmental delays and other neurological differences. As a Volunteer Counsellor at Parentline, Canberra, Australia, I provided telephone, online and face-to-face counselling services to children and families. I had the opportunity to be trained in the Parent Effectiveness Approach which enables me to provide training and support to parents and carers who wish to optimize their relationship with their children.
I primarily use a Person-Centered Approach with integrated elements of mindfulness-based strategies in Counselling. I have been trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Solution-focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Art and Play Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapeutic approach. I have recently been trained and certified by Unyte in Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) and Integrated Listening System (ILS) providing an evidence-based Audio therapy approach to help Neurodiverse children, adolescents and adults thrive.
